Meet The Founder – Dorcas Zoogah
Growing up in the Sheaga community, I have personally experienced the challenges D.zoogah Naturals is addressing. As one of nine children in a household where my mother, like so many other women in our community, was a housewife with no income, we often struggled with basic needs—food, clothing, even a place to sleep. My elder sister, unable to endure the hardships of our family’s situation, became teenage mother. I, too, was on the verge of giving up and leaving for the southern part of the country in search of a better life. During that time, I faced significant challenges, including sexual abuse. Many of those who left the community with me were unable to return, getting involved in petty crimes like pickpocketing to survive.
Key notes
Dorcas Yingura Zoogah is a young woman from the rural village, she’s currently pursuing her MPhil in Agriculture Technology, has obtained her Bsc in Agricultural Technology, she’s an advocate, activist, entrepreneur, social and climate change advocate, she volunteers in bringing development to her community and Ghana large. Her passion and enthusiasm is for women empowerment and economic independence of the rural women and the vulnerable.
However, I was determined to change the narrative—for my family and for the community. Watching my elder sister marry at a young age, I felt deeply hurt. My mother’s struggles to find food for us and her efforts to keep us in school left a lasting impact on me. I was next in line to become a child bride, but I was resolute in breaking that cycle. My personal journey fuels my commitment to the mission of D.zoogah Naturals. I understand, from lived experience, the importance of empowering women and girls to break free from the cycles of poverty, early marriage, and limited opportunities.
My goal is to create a better future for the women, girls, and vulnerable individuals in our community, so they don’t have to face the same hardships I did. At D.zoogah Naturals, we are dedicated to transforming the lives of rural women in the Sheaga community by engaging them in shea production.
